Introduction: Holarrhina antidysenterica (Bark) & Pimpernels animus (Seed)

AMATI tablet contains classically recommended medicinal plants used in Ayurveda, which have been found effective against amoebic dysentery. The efficacy of the ingredients (alkaloid, connesine) contained in “Amati” has been established in British pharmaceutical codex and also reconfirmed by a clinical trail done in Teku hospital , Kathmandu against Entamoeba histolytica infestation. The trial has shown “Amati” to be 97.5% successful to eradicate both cyst and trophozoites forming. An additional blind trial has also has also been conducted in comparison with allopathic drug Metronidazole in same hospital.  Amati was found as effective as  Metronidazole but with less side effects.

Action: Connesine is the principle alkaloid of H. antidysenterica, whose amoebicidal activity is proved. It is amoebicidal in a 1 in 280,000 dilution after 8 minutes in presence of alkali medium & 18 minutes in absence of alkali medium.

Indication: It is indicated in intestinal amoebiasis caused by Entamoeba histolytica dysentery and general diarrhea.

Adverse Effect: It has negligible toxic effects. In some cases it may cause, dryness of mouth and nausea. The side effects subside after discontinuation of use.

Contra Indication: None.

Doses: Adult: 2 tablets thrice a day.   Children: 1 tablet thrice.  To be taken orally on empty stomach for 7 days or as directed by physician. Precaution : Avoid alcohol, oily, and fried food.
